Melvin
When Tony Cimino first bought the hotel, he had a handy man named Melvin helping do the renovation of the hotel. Melvin was staying on site in one of the rooms. One day Tony came by to see how things were progressing and could not find Melvin. He checked the room where Melvin was staying and found Melvin there behind a multiple locked door. Melvin had installed three or four locks on his door and Tony asked him why he had all those locks. Melvin told him that a ghost had told him to follow him and the ghost took Melvin down to the old boiler room. When they arrived, the ghost told him he needed to hurry away from this place (the boiler room) because it was an evil place and people had died there. Melvin then ran upstairs and locked himself in his room. Tony asked Melvin why he locked the door since ghosts walk through walls. That statement did not make Melvin feel very safe. Gloria When the hotel was ready to open after forty years of being closed, a young lady named Gloria, the head of housekeeping at that time, reported to several of her coworkers that she had heard voices in Room 409. She said that while she was cleaning the bathroom she heard someone clear his or her throat and say, “ Excuse me!” She looked around but saw no one. She then went back to the bathroom and again heard a voice say, “I said excuse me!” At this time, she looked all around the room and even checked up and down the hallways, but still she found no one. She said it really gave her an uneasy feeling and it was as though she really wasn’t alone in the room. Sheena Shortly after the hotel opened for business, one of our former front desk clerks, Sheena, reported that on a Saturday night she was at the front desk area working and heard what sounded like a child crying rather loudly. Being scared and concerned, she opened the office door and saw a very young girl perhaps ten to twelve years old
standing just outside the office door dripping wet in a night gown
type of garment.
The girl was sobbing.
Sheena was so frightened, she closed the door and immediately called her mother who rushed over to the hotel. By this time, Sheena was so scared she herself was in tears. Sheena’s mother finally calmed her down and together they did a search of the hotel. They found no water on the floor nor did they find any signs of anyone being in the hotel other than the few registered guests. It was a very long time before Sheena ever worked overnight again. Pam's Little Girl "When I first started, she was standing in the doorway with a white dress on holding a ball. She was rolling the ball like she wanted to play. I ran at first, 'cause I was scared. Then I came back in and told her I wasn't afraid of her, but I didn't have time to play. Every morning she waits for me to come with a smile on her face. I tell her good morning and she goes away to play in the boiler room. If I don't pay attention to her she goes and plays in the boiler room and makes noise until I say something to her. She quits after that and goes on playing quietly. I don't know how anybody else is going to make it. She'd chase anybody else off that she didn't feel like was good for this hotel. I guess that's what happened to all the other housekeepers." *UPDATE* - The Husband of a one of our front desk clerks has confirmed this sighting! Night Shift Another member of the hotel staff said she has had only one unusual experience in two years of working at the hotel. This staff member always works the overnight shift and on one Saturday night witnessed the elevator coming from upstairs down to the mezzanine and the door opening and closing. It then went back upstairs to the second floor and opened and closed again. It did this all night long, and was unnerving, to say the least. She did not see or hear anything else so stayed in the front desk area with the door locked and
waited out the night.
After relating the incident, the staff member said "Yeah,
I know ghosts walk through walls, but it made me feel better at the
time to lock the door.
When my relief came in on Sunday morning, I told her what was happening.
She thought it was very amusing, and suggested we check out the elevator.
We went up to the second floor where we found the elevator button was
actually stuck."
Guests Several guests have related their experiences in their rooms. They tell of strange things happening, such as lights coming on in the bathroom when no one is in there, the water faucet turning on in the bathroom when no one was there, coffee cups dancing on desks, and the sound of laughter in the hallways. One gentleman said that as he sat on the bed putting on his shoes, he felt a cold breeze and then felt someone sit beside him on the bed. Another guest was awakened by a cowboy standing over her bed and then disappearing. We have never heard of any guest feeling threatened by our friends. However, plenty of them are surprised when ‘something’ happens.
Many of the staff members have had unusual experiences in the hotel and would be more than happy to share their story with you. I If any guests experience anything unusual, they should rest assured that they are not crazy. Please don’t be afraid to tell the employees or add it to our book. We hope you enjoy your visit at The Rogers Hotel and come to spend a night with us at your earliest convenience, maybe Halloween!!!!! |
